Spoken English with Linguaphone curriculum and Eyespeak digital language lab software.

pptl

Linguaphone have launched a new software product called L21 with Eyespeak. This new product combines the power of the world renowned Linguaphone 21 Spoken English curriculum, with the Speech Recognition capabilities of Eyespeak digital language software.
Linguaphone 21 with Eyespeak software is to be installed on a computer, and all the language exercises of Linguaphone are loaded on the hard disk. The learner refers to the Course Books, can select an activity and hear the teacher’s voice, record his own, play back and compare, see a visual graphic representation of his speech, and also get the overall score he has achieved.
In addition, the Eyespeak software will analyse the learner’s voice along 4 parameters : Pronunciation, Pitch, Timing and Loudness, and give scores on each aspect. Eyespeak will also provide a diagram of the mouth showing the placement of the tongue on the palate or lips in order to achieve the correct pronunciation.
There are Placement Tests that learners can use to assess their level of Spoken English before they start the course. In addition, the scores achieved by each learner are recorded in the computer, so that at the end of the course, the overall achievement is recorded, and a Linguaphone certificate is issued.
eyespeak_english_softwareLinguaphone 21 uses Global Spoken English. The Eyespeak program adds a new dimension with sound lessons in British English, and also a full British English dictionary for learners to learn the meaning and pronunciation of over 2300 words.
Linguaphone 21 is a 4 level program, and a learner who completes the entire course will have command over an active working English speaking vocabulary of over 2500 words. Eyespeak will reinforce this curriculum, by adding the dimension of voice and accent training, with scoring, evaluation, and ideas for improvement.
Linguaphone 21 with Eyespeak does not need trained English teachers to implement the program. The software fulfils all the functions of the teacher – evaluating the learner’s English, pointing out mistakes and offering suggestions, giving scores for performance, and providing ample opportunity for review and revision. The software acts as the built-in teacher. This feature will make it very attractive in all kinds of learning situations where teachers who have excellent Spoken English are not available

The Minimum System Requirements to run the software are:
  • Operating System: Windows XP, 2000, Vista-
  • Ram: 256MB

Listen Understand SpeakLinguaphone uses the natural method for language learning, just as you learnt your mother tongue. It teaches all 4 communications skills: Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening.
Linguaphone 21 is based on learning English through the principle of Guided Total Immersion (GTI). The course is mono-lingual, using the Direct Method so that you learn to think in English and speak English, with mastery and ease.
Linguaphone uses Native English speakers to impart a global accent, pronunciation and usage. This helps neutralize the mother tongue influence on accent – a major factor for job seekers.

Linguaphone 21 Syllabus:
Level      Proficiency      Vocabulary                Activities
One Basic 500-600 words 347
Two Fluent 1100-1300 words 410

Advisory CommitteeEvery learning unit of Linguaphone 21 has tests with practice and revision built into it, so that progress is measured at every stage. Linguaphone teaches grammar in context. So grammar is learned along with the language, and not as a set of rules. This is the ‘ Hidden Syllabus’ of Linguaphone in action.
The Linguaphone Editorial Advisory Board is chaired by Lord Quirk, the foremost authority on English grammar. All members of the Board are eminent scholars in their own right, specializing in various aspects of the English language.

The Correspondence Course with Linguaphone Certification

There are Four Books with tests in the Correspondence Course. When all four Books have been completed, you will also receive a Completion Certificate from the Linguaphone Institute, London. This is a very valuable addition to the resume of job seekers. The course tests the learner on all elements of the language, including grammar, that have been covered in the units.

Testimonials

From 1972 – 1976 I was a student in Rome doing post-graduate studies in theology. During this time I had to pursue the study of Italian and later on during the course of these four years, the study of German as well. For both these languages I made use of the LINGUAPHONE which I found very useful and effective.
What I like specially about the Linguaphone methodology is:
  1. It introduces you to the most important and useful words of the language beginning with the family, the house, the bedroom, the hotel, the restaurant, numbers, money etc. This enables the student to carry on a simple conversation in daily life.
  2. The use of the recorded tape gives the student a good foundation in pronunciation and this makes a positive impression on listeners.
I still remember the day I arrived in Germany. The rector of the institution where I had gone for a few days said to me, as soon as I had said my first sentence in German: ” Where did you learn German? You speak so correctly”.

Dear Sir,
We are happy to have linguaphone language lab in our institute. The linguaphone spoken English program has been received well by the students of the Government Polytechnic Mumbai. We hope the combination of books and cassettes will be immensely useful to meet the language challenges.
We would like to mention that since most of the students come from homes, which speak by in their mother-tongue, this program may help them to improve their English by using the linguaphone method.
Yours truly,

Principal

Dear Sir,
I got acquainted with the Linguaphone French six years back through our Principal Dr. P.C. Thomas when he bought a complete set from London. Since then I have been using the pack in my teaching. The children responded quite well to this aided teaching with Linguaphone due to its stress on listening skill. This encouraged us to buy forty sets of Linguaphone French pack from Ms. Deepa (Lotus Learning Pvt. Ltd – Chennai Branch) six months back. We have been the first International School in India to have got introduced to Linguaphone French.
The most fascinating aspect of the pack is its methodical arrangement of lessons and well organized oral and written exercises. It has been quite beneficial for the students who follow the Cambridge programme and IB programme which involve all the four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) which are necessary for learning a language.
Std VII upwards (age group 12 upwards) are the classes which are involved in these streams and we have been able to effectively carry out this pack for the class IX and above so far and the response has been too positive. From the next academic year onwards we are planning to incorporate this pack in our teaching for the other classes which involve IGCSE stream.
I thank our Principal Dr. P.C. Thomas, Ms. Deepa and all others who got me introduced to this pack. I am sure that my colleagues would also find it quite helpful to use this pack as part of their teaching and is going to be an innovative method in teaching as we have clear guidelines provided in the leaflet on how to carry out the course.
All the best to Ms. Deepa and her group who are involved in recommending this pack to various schools which would serve as the best tool in learning the language.

We are lucky enough to get educational relationships with Lotus Learning Private Limited for promoting Linguaphone for the welfare of our faculty as well as the students.
It is a matter of pride for us that our Institution “Adivasi Seva Sahayyak & Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha” is one of the 350 schools and colleges in the vast country like India to have begin the course like such.
We appreciate the sincere efforts and the perseverance of the trainer Mrs. Rehana Sharifi for increasing the sense of the confidence about English Speaking within the three days.  The whole college staff of Shri. Dear Parents,
In today’s world, it is increasingly difficult to find native English speaking English Language Teachers.
To meet this challenge and compliment our already highly competent teaching of English, we are introducing the world famous Linguaphone English Learning System using native English speakers, so that our students get a truly global accent.
The teaching will be carried out in specially set up Language Lab on our premises. Our students will take these spoken English classes as a part of their regular curriculum.
As parents of our students, we are also encouraging any of you who are interested in enhancing your communication skills to make us of our Lab on a nominal payment.
We invite you to the inauguration of the Language Lab at 11.30 a.m. on 31st August 2004 when you can avail of more information on this subject.
Yours sincerely

Dr. Mrs. Stella Samuel
"I completed the Thai language course and just wanted to say thank you to all those involved for what I found to be a most enjoyable and informative course. I believe the program to be an outstanding one. It allowed me to further my education while maintaining my employment. I find this format very efficient and flexible for students or working adults who work full-time and have other responsibilities. I think this format affords more interaction and collaboration and is very user-friendly."

"The Linguaphone system is like watching a play or watching a serial and by the end of the season you can speak the language and learn more by conversing with native speakers. Linguaphone is a great and user-friendly system that gradually accustoms you to the language. It enables fluency enough to build on your vocabulary when conversing with native speakers."

Know Linguaphone?

Linguaphone means learning languages through sound. Linguaphone is a global language training provider, and has over 108 years in providing self-study language courses. Part of the Linguaphone Group, Linguaphone’s portfolio of self-study language products are sold in over 60 countries worldwide. They produce a wide range of self-study language courses in 15 languages; available on CD, MP3 download and MP4 media players for students of all levels wanting to learn a new language.

Methodology

Linguaphone’s self-study courses follow Linguaphone's in-house methodology of 'Listen, Understand, Speak'. Students are encouraged to listen to the language from the beginning, to begin to read as they listen and only to speak once they have learnt to understand the language presented.

History

Linguaphone was established in 1901 by Jacques Roston, a translator and language teacher, born in Poland, (Koło), and they were the first language training company to recognise the potential of combining the traditional written course with the wax cylinder and later with records.
